L&rsquo;archipel des Australes ne se serait peupl\u00e9 que relativement tard en comparaison avec les autres archipels de Polyn\u00e9sie. Ce n&rsquo;est vraisemblablement qu&rsquo;au <abbr title=\"11th century\">XI<sup>e<\/sup><\/abbr>\u00a0century or even <abbr title=\"14th century\">XIV<sup>e<\/sup><\/abbr>\u00a0century that the islands would have welcomed their first inhabitants, most certainly from Tahiti, populated long before. However, there has never been a real archaeological excavation that has been undertaken on this subject.<\/p>\n<p>The Austral Islands are made up of a group of five main high islands, and two groups
