This section will only cover the differences with Canaan.<\/p>\n<p>The Phoenicians are an ancient people originating from the cities of Phoenicia, a region which approximately corresponds to present-day Lebanon. This name comes from the authors <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythes-et-legendes-grecques-1664\/\">greeks<\/a> qui ont \u00e9crit \u00e0 leur sujet. La Ph\u00e9nicie a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 divis\u00e9e entre plusieurs cit\u00e9s, dont les plus importantes \u00e9taient Byblos, Sidon (Sayda), Tyr (Sour) et Arwad, et on ne sait pas si celles-ci ont eu conscience d&rsquo;une identit\u00e9 commune. Les historiens ont repris l&rsquo;adjectif \u00ab&nbsp;ph\u00e9nicien&nbsp;\u00bb pour d\u00e9signer la civilisation qui s&rsquo;est \u00e9panouie dans la r\u00e9gion entre 1200 et 300 <abbr title=\"before Jesus Christ\">av. J.-C.<\/abbr><\/p>\n<p>Carthage est fond\u00e9e par des colons ph\u00e9niciens de Tyr en 814 av. J.-C. D&rsquo;apr\u00e8s la l\u00e9gende, ce serait la reine Didon \u2014&nbsp;ou \u00c9lyssa&nbsp;\u2014, s\u0153ur du roi de Tyr, Pygmalion, qui fonda la cit\u00e9. La reine aurait demand\u00e9 au souverain voisin Hiarbas, un roi <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythologie-berbere\/\">berb\u00e8re<\/a>, l&rsquo;autorisation de fonder un royaume sur ses terres. Celui-ci lui offrit alors un terrain aussi grand qu&rsquo;une peau de vache. La reine plus maligne fait couper une peau de vache en lani\u00e8res tr\u00e8s fines et trace les contours de Carthage.
