Marie, Ontario. Here&#039;s one from their tale: Northern Lights.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythology-anichinabians\/\">Ojibway<\/a> were part of a series of very close, but distinct groups, occupying a territory located between the northeast of the bay <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/georgian-mythology\/\">Georgian<\/a> and eastern Lake Superior. These peoples who gathered near present-day Sault Ste. We are in<br \/>a world that spins in a perfect vertical position upon its axis.<br \/>The moderate temperature is about the same all over its surface<br \/>and beautiful vegetation is everywhere.<\/p><p>As we return through time, we witness the great Flood where everything<br \/>becomes submerged and finally lost. As the waters gradually recede<br \/>their tremendous weight throws our planet off its balance and it<br \/>now tilts to one side, thus causing long dark periods in the North and South.<\/p><p>Not quite all is lost however, for in the North lived a simple<br \/>and God-fearing race of people, known to us now as the \u201c\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythes-et-legendes-mongoles-1736\/\">Mongols<\/a>\u00a0&quot;,<br \/>whom the Great Manitou (their name for God) had spared from this great deluge.<\/p><p>When they could no longer see the Sun and feel its warmth, fear<br \/>came upon them and they prayed to the Great Manitou to save them.<br \/>In his compassion, the Great Spirit decided to take them to the<br \/>warm and fertile plains of this Continent and he bade them gather<br \/>together their families and &#039;what goods they could carry and trek<br \/>across the barren North to the &quot;New Land&quot;.<\/p><p>Because there was no daylight many became lost and perished within<br \/>the deep crevices caused by the flood waters.<\/p><p>Again they prayed for help and the Great Manitou devised a plan.<br \/>Covering the Northern cap of the world with great crystals of ice,<br \/>some as high as mountains, he was able to capture the rays of the<br \/>hidden sun and reflect them up into the sky, thus providing light<br \/>for his people to see by.
