living in the mountains. It is a person (male or female) who has become permanently possessed by one of the lesser (i.e. local\/specialized) classes of deities known most commonly as\u00a0<em>Hat\u2019i<\/em>\u00a0(= &#039;sign&#039;), but also by those of\u00a0<em>Dzhuar<\/em>\u00a0(=&#039; cross &#039;) and\u00a0<em>Saghmto<\/em>\u00a0(=&#039;deity&#039;). The\u00a0<em>Hat&#039;i in<\/em>\u00a0numbered several hundred at the turn of the 19th century and the word\u00a0<em>Hat\u2019i<\/em>\u00a0could designate not only a deity of this class but also its manifestation (as a real or imaginary image, object or animal) and the place (temple \/ sanctuary) where it was worshipped.<\/p>\n<p>the\u00a0<em>Kadag<\/em>\u00a0enters a trance, both during religious rituals and during important events in individual or collective life, and its\u00a0<em>Hat&#039;i to<\/em>\u00a0remains\u00a0<em>predicted<\/em>\u00a0the future in a special secret or sacred language of the\u00a0<em>Hat\u2019i<\/em>\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>A second type of practitioner of the shamanic type (exclusively female) was the\u00a0<em>Mesultana<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 the word deriving from the soul <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/georgian-mythology\/\">Georgian<\/a>\u00a0<em>suli<\/em>\u00a0. A\u00a0<em>Mesultana<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 usually female, although sometimes as young as a nine-year-old girl \u2013 was a woman who possessed &quot;the faculty of visiting the afterlife in spirit.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>At times, these women would sink into &quot;a lethargy broken by whispers&quot;, after which they would wake up and describe their &quot;journey&quot;, communicating the demands of the dead to particular individuals or to the community at large.
