class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ZO-Feu\"><\/span>ZO (Fire)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>It is fire in its double negative and positive aspect. But the tradition mainly emphasizes its negative manifestation. Zo governs passions, desires, violence, destruction, war, treachery, everything that generates suffering and pain. A myth of oracular art F\u00e2, reports that the God H\u00eavioso and the God Zo, clashed over H\u00eavioso&#039;s wife whom both coveted. This myth joins the Greek myth of Mars and Hephaestus. <\/p>\n<p>The god Zo corresponds to MarsThe god Zo designates the only god, as in the tradition <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythes-et-legendes-grecques-1664\/\">Greek<\/a>, to whom we dedicate a month: \u201czosoun\u201d (September). This god also governs the short rainy season of the lower<a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/benign-delta-mythology\/\">Benign<\/a>, which runs from late August\/early September until November. Thus, Zo is the god of agriculture as well as Mars. <\/p>\n<p>The period from the end of August to the beginning of September is the beginning of the year in the Fon tradition. Time of the year during which the &quot;menducation&quot; of the premises of the yam and the new ceremonies take place. The end of the year also corresponds to the royal &quot;hwetanou&quot; ceremony in <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/dahomeenne-fon-mythology\/\">Abomey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HON-Feu\"><\/span>HON (Fire)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>It is the solar bird of the Fon tradition. \u201cHon\u201d (Falcon, Eagle) and \u201cK\u00eas\u00ea\u201d (Parrot) designate the same reality. The term \u201chon\u201d (to light up, to shine) evokes the sun, the light in its expansion, while \u201cK\u00eas\u00ea\u201d (universe, spirit) represents the divine soul. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/\">legend<\/a> tells that Sun which represents the God S\u00ea, the Fire which represents F\u00e2 and K\u00eas\u00ea had a quarrel with Rain or H\u00eavioso. All three set a day to put an end to it. On the appointed day, Rain began to fall. Sun could no longer shine. Fire went out. Only the fire lit at K\u00eas\u00ea&#039;s tail shone. This is why the Parrot&#039;s feather is used to crown a victor. <\/p>\n<p>This myth is a cosmological story evoking the end of creation. The parrot, the divine soul, will remain at the end of time, since it is eternal, but its manifestation, the sun, will vanish into the waters of creation, which will determine the sleep again of the Creator, the fire, that is to say, expansion will become contraction and we will witness the regression of creation. Then the demiurge will awaken in the primordial waters and a new creation will take shape. This process will be endless. <\/p>\n<p>We still encounter the cult of Hon in Abomey in the synthetic form of \u201cHon-D\u00e9\u201d (Falcon-Palmier). It evokes the cult of the navel &quot;hon&quot;, the center of man, the core of life. This cult consists in burying a parcel of the dried umbilical cord. A palm tree is planted on the latter, symbolizing the long life and prosperity promised to the child. The D\u00e9 palm is the tree of life and represents the center of creation. This cult therefore aims to connect the microcosm to the macrocosm, man to God, and to ensure his salvation, his resurrection.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SAKPATA-Terre\"><\/span>SAKPATA (Earth)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Sakpata is the most feared god in the pantheon <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/dahomeenne-fon-mythology\/\">Voodoo<\/a>. We dare not call him by his name. Other names that inspire less fear are used: \u201cdokounon\u201d (the rich), \u201cdohosou\u201d (the sovereign of the basement). It represents mineral wealth, gold as the condensation of sunlight represented by Ayidohw\u00eado. As such, Sakpata personifies fire rushing to earth, creative fire embodied in matter. <\/p>\n<p>It forms the earth and becomes the fire within matter and ensures its cohesion or disintegration. It allows the perfect alchemy which realizes the riches of the subsoil but in its anger it can upset and break the balance of the ecosystem, hence the unleashing in nature of plagues and natural disasters. Tradition only emphasizes his destructive power, hence his name as the god of smallpox capable of decimating an entire population in a few days. Hence also the fear and respect he arouses, and the consideration enjoyed by his priests, who are great healers. <\/p>\n<p>They are the only ones to know by what ritual means, one can appease the God Sakpata, and stop the procession of formidable diseases which result from his \u201cmood swings\u201d. Sakpata is the god of the volcano The earthquake mainly falls under the God Dangb\u00e9, the python, which constitutes an aspect of Sakpata. Sakpata has a pantheon which includes nearly twenty son-gods, some more harmful than the others. The number 10 of the God Sakpata is 10. The term Sakpata designates the Sakhmet-Ptah synthesis of Egyptian theology. Sakpata corresponds to the Greek god Hephaestus.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"KOU-Terre\"><\/span>KOU (Earth)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The God Kou personifies death and is represented by a skeleton. He lives in the underworld &quot;Do&quot;, a name by which he is also designated. This place separates the world of the living from that of the gods and ancestors. It is traversed by raging waters: \u201cKuto\u201d. After leaving the world of the living, before reaching the kingdom of the gods and the ancestors, you have to pay a customs duty to Agasou-Sava, the juggler. <\/p>\n<p>This legend evokes a similarity with the <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/\">mythology<\/a> Greek, which teaches that the souls of the deceased must cross to the other bank of the Styx, before finding peace, rest, bliss. The God Kou has three children; the eldest is called Azon = disease, the second has the name Tadou = Migraine, and the last Avouvo = Fever. The three children of Kou correspond to the Fates, goddesses <a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/mythes-et-legendes-grecques-1664\/\">greek<\/a> of Death, satellites of Death.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AGASOU-Terre\"><\/span>AGASOU (Earth)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Agasou designates the mythical ancestor of the royal families of Porto-Novo, Alada and Abomey. He is represented by a panther which recalls his origin. Tradition indeed identifies him with the child born of the union of a panther and Princess Aligbonon. When he died, his son Adjahouto killed Adja, who robbed him of his throne. He had to flee to settle in Alada. His descendants will be at the origin of the three kingdoms mentioned. <\/p>\n<p>The king of Abomey, a descendant of the Panther then has a divine ancestry. He is God Incarnate. The cult of Agasou, or cult of \u201cKpo\u201d (panther), in Abomey, is the supreme cult of the kingdom. It forms with the cult of \u201cL\u00eansouhw\u00e9\u201d and that of \u201cAdjahouto\u201d, the royal cult or the \u201cState cult\u201d. All vodoun priests are placed under the authority of the priest of Agasou, the Agasounon.<\/p>\n<p>The sovereign also bears the titles of \u201cDada\u201d and \u201cDj\u00eahosou\u201d. Dada-S\u00ea or S\u00ea are the names of the Creator. The etymology of Dada, \u201cda\u201d (to pull, to cut), takes account of the battles that the Creator had to fight to achieve creation and to maintain it. Dada-S\u00ea evokes the daily struggle waged by the sun S\u00ea, against the God Dan, representation of the forces threatening creation, in order to appear each morning to enlighten creation and transmit life.<\/p>\n<p>The Dada title held by the King of Abomey thus invites him to embody the god-warrior who is his father, and to fight to enlarge and maintain the universal kingdom of Abomey, the center of creation. The decomposition of Dj\u00eahosou gives: \u201cdj\u00ea\u201d (pearl, spirit) and hosou (sovereign) is the sovereign of the sky.
