href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/\">mythology<\/a> Serer brings together the Serer people and their religion called The Way of the Divine.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Serer<\/strong>\u00a0(or &quot;Serer&quot;, &quot;Sereer&quot;, &quot;Serere&quot;, &quot;Seereer&quot;, and sometimes wrongly &quot;Serre&quot;) are a people of West Africa, especially present in the center-west of Senegal, the south of the Dakar region to the Gambian border. They form, in number, the third ethnic group of Senegal, after the Wolofs and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mythslegendes.com\/en\/hausa-fulani-mythology\/\">Fulanis<\/a>. The Serers are one of the oldest populations in Senegambia.<\/p>\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Serer religion<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>To<\/strong>\u00a0<em><strong>\u01adat Roog<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(&quot;The way of the divine&quot;), brings together the religious beliefs, practices and teachings of the Serer people living in the Senegambia region. The Sererians believe in a supreme universal deity called\u00a0<em>Rog<\/em>\u00a0(or Roog). Among the cangins peoples, Rog is designated as\u00a0<em>Kooh<\/em>\u00a0(Where\u00a0<em>Koox<\/em>), Kop\u00e9 Tiatie Cac, Kokh Kox, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Serer religious beliefs are based on ancient songs and poems; they include veneration and offerings to saints, former Sereres, as well as ancestral spirits (<em>Pangool<\/em>), but also astronomical and cosmological beliefs, initiation rites, medical practices and a history of the Serer people.\u00a0<em>Rog<\/em>\u00a0is both everywhere and nowhere. This is the reason why there is no house of\u00a0<em>Rog<\/em>. The Sereres pray\u00a0<em>Rog<\/em>\u00a0- through intercessors -, but do not make animal sacrifices directly to\u00a0<em>Rog<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5284
