La Mythologie Creek-Seminole regroupe les peuples amérindiens suivants : Creek, Muscogee, Muskogee, Mvskoke, Séminole, Alabama, Alobimon, Alibamu, Coushatta, Koasati, Hitchiti
Les Creeks sont un peuple amérindien qui vivait à l’origine au sud-est des États-Unis, ils font partie des Cinq tribus civilisées. Ils se nomment eux-mêmes les Muscogee ou Muskogee. Cette dernière appellation qu’ils utilisent de nos jours, s’écrit Mvskoke selon l’orthographe traditionnelle. Les Muscogees vivent aujourd’hui principalement en Oklahoma, Alabama, Géorgie et Floride. Leur langue, le Mvskoke, fait partie de la famille des langues muskogéennes. Les Séminoles sont de proches parents des Muscogees et parlent également la langue creek.
La nation séminole a émergé au XVIIIe siècle ; elle était composée d’Indiens des actuels États de Géorgie, du Mississippi, de l’Alabama, et de Floride, le plus souvent issus de la nation Creek mais aussi d’Afro-Américains fuyant l’esclavage de Géorgie (voir Séminoles noirs).
Les Alabama, Alibamons ou Alibamu sont une tribu amérindienne des États-Unis appartenant à la confédération des Creeks, originaires de ce qui est devenu l’État d’Alabama auquel ils ont donné leur nom. Après avoir été déplacés au Texas au XVIIIe et début du XIXe siècle sous la pression des colons européens-américains, ils se sont unis aux Coushatta (Koasati) pour devenir l’actuelle tribu Alabama-Coushatta, tout en conservant une langue propre, la langue alabama.
Les Coushattas (ou encore Koasatis) sont un peuple amérindien qui vivait à l’origine dans l’État américain de la Louisiane, dans le Sud des États-Unis. Le peuple coushatta était composé d’agriculteurs qui faisaient pousser du maïs et d’autres plantes, consommées en complément des produits de la chasse. Il a développé un artisanat de qualité, notamment la fabrication de paniers.
Les Hitchiti étaient une tribu du peuple Creek qui résidait principalement dans un village portant le même nom sur la rive est de la Chattahoochee, dans l’ouest de la Géorgie.
