This is the history of the rocky beach, named Praia da Rocha.

Once upon a time there were two giants, Sea and Mountain, who lived in perfect harmony, until the day a mermaid arrived. Her charm and bewitching songs made the two giants fall in love, each of them wanting her for himself. Then a terrible battle for the mermaid broke out.
The sea was furious and then made huge waves while the angry rocks grew even bigger. The mermaid, also madly in love with the Sea and the Mountain, did not know what to do to choose. She then turned into fine, golden sand in order to spend her life with the two giants who made her succumb.
According to legend, the landscape was transformed by this battle for love and formed the Praia da Rocha, located very close to Portimao and is one of the most famous in the Algarve.
