The mythology Illiniwek includes the following Native American peoples: Confederacy of Illinois, Illinois, Illiniwek, askaskia, Cahokia, Peorias, Tamaroa, Moingwena, Michigamea, Albiui, Amonokoa, Chepoussa, Chinkoa, Coiracoentanon, Espeminkia, Maroa, Matchinkoa, Michibousa, Negawichi, Tapouara.

The Confederacy of Illinois or more simply, the Illinois, sometimes Illiniwek, were Native Americans living south of the Great Lakes in the upper Mississippi Valley. The confederation was made up of the tribes of Kaskaskia, Cahokia, Peorias, Tamaroa, Moingwena, Michigamea, Albiui, Amonokoa, Chepoussa, Chinkoa, Coiracoentanon, Espeminkia, Maroa, Matchinkoa, Michibousa, Negawichi and Tapouara.

When French explorers first reached this region from Canada at the beginning of the 17th century^e century, they find it populated by Algonquian speakers. Much of what we know about them today comes to us from Jesuit Relations, written between 1632 and 1672. These Relationships is a collection of correspondence between missionaries from the Society of Jesus sent to Canada and their superiors in Paris.
