Mythologie Kalmyk
Les Kalmouks, Kalmyks ou Khalmyks sont des descendants des mongols occidentaux, des Oïrats ayant migré au XVIIème siècle.
Après être devenus vassaux des Mongols en 1207, les Oïrats mènent une vie nomade dans les steppes de l’Altaï. Au XVe siècle, les tribus oïrates forment une puissante alliance connue sous le nom des « Quatre peuples Oïrats ». Parmi les principales tribus figurent les Choros, les Torguts et les Dörbets.
En 1616, mécontents du contrôle de l’alliance par les Choros, la plupart des Torguts et une partie des Dörbets migrent vers l’ouest. Ils s’installent alors dans le bassin de la Volga.
