The hunter's moon

The first full moon after the harvest marks the start of the hunting season. The leaves of the trees fall, the game is fattened, the hunters can easily see the animals which come to feed on the fallen grains.

Hunter's Moon Ceremony

It's time for the Hunter's Moon ceremony to give thanks to the animals who sacrifice themselves to provide food. They will never be tortured, and nothing they get will be wasted.
The men will leave for the hunting grounds, while the families await their return in complete safety and with the necessary resources.

Iroquois Hunter's Moon Ceremony

They used bow and arrows to hunt, sometimes camouflaged with the skin of a deer to approach their prey. In winter, they walked on snowshoes in snowy fields.
