Scottish mythology

The mythology Scottish is the set of myths and legends popular in Scotland. Some, organized in cycles, such as the Ulster Cycle and the Fenian cycle, are shared with Irish mythology; certain aspects, peculiar to Scotland, do not appear in the known Irish versions.

The legendary origins of the Scots, celts from Ireland, were created during the historical period. When, historically, the Picts were equated with the Gaelophone Celtic arrivals and the main features of their culture and their history disappeared from general memory, legendary elements filled in the historical gaps.

Their "sudden disappearance" was explained by a massacre at a banquet given by King Kenneth MacAlpin, and they were assigned supernatural powers shared with fairies and elves, such as making a fermented drink, to the recipe. secret, mainly based on heather, or the existence of underground palaces.
