Canaanite Mythology – Ugarit

The religion of Ugarit is commonly referred to as mythology Canaanite. Indeed, it has many points in common with that of the inhabitants of the land of Canaan, which is attested by passages from the Hebrew Bible (gods, myths, religious practices). In the same way, it offers points of comparison with that of the Hebrews, as well as that of the Phoenicians who are the descendants of the cultures of the Levant littoral of the recent bronze.

In fact, the discovery of Ugaritic texts constitutes an invaluable contribution to the knowledge of the religion of the entire ancient Levant, and in particular to biblical studies. This allowed us, for a given period, to have a good knowledge of the religion of one of the small coastal kingdoms of the ancient Near East, while the religion of the rest of these states is poorly known.
