The dervish and the girls

The dervish and the girls

There was a woman who had three daughters.

A dervish comes to ask him for his eldest daughter; he takes her home. Arrived at home, he gives her a piece of raw meat and says to her:

  • You have to eat this piece of raw meat. If you eat it, you will be my wife. If you don't eat it, I'll strangle you and hang you at the well.

The girl says:

  • I can't eat in front of you. Go outside, I'll eat it.

The dervish comes out. The girl puts the meat on the bottom of the oven.

He comes in and asks:

  • So, did you eat the meat?
  • Yes, I ate it said the girl.

The dervish asks:

– Meat, where are you?

A voice answers:

I'm at the bottom of the oven.

The dervish strangles the girl and goes to hang her at the well.

Then he goes to find the youngest and says:

  • Your sister is sick. Come heal her, let her heal.

The girl follows the dervish; they arrive at his house.

  • Listen, said the dervish, you are going to eat this piece of raw meat, if you don't eat it, I will strangle you like your sister, and I will hang you in the well.

The girl says:

- Go outside, I'll eat it. I can't eat in front of you.

The dervish comes out. The girl pushes the meat into a hole in the wall. The dervish returns and asks:

  • So, did you eat the meat?
  • I ate it said the girl.
  • Meat, where are you? asks the dervish
  • I am in the hole in the wall.

The dervish strangles the girl and hangs her in the well.

Then he goes to find the youngest and says to her:

– Your sisters are sick, come and see.

The girl says:

  • Go ahead of me, I'm going to get two melons in the garden and I'm coming.
