Mythology of the Cabiric Mysteries
The cult to Mysteries Cabires (from Kabirim, « dieux puissants », ou de Khaberim, "associate gods") are minor deities in several places in the Greece, and especially in the islands of Samothrace, Lemnos and Imbros.
They were imported into Greece by the Phoenicians, but changed by merging with the divinities of the Pelasgic cult. Originally, the Cabires gods formed a tetrad whose names were: Axiéros, Axiocersos, Axiocersa and Cadmillos or Casmillos. These deities became protectors of navigation.
The high priest of the Cabiric cult, called Eues, recevait la confession de ceux qui se faisaient initier. La dernière cérémonie de l’initiation, qui ouvrait à l’initié l’accès des mystères, s’appelait thronisme : l’initié, après avoir subi les plus terribles épreuves, était assis sur un trône éclatant de lumière, le front couvert d’un voile, couronné d’un rameau d’olivier et ceint d’une écharpe, tandis que tous les prêtres et les mystes, se tenant par la main, exécutaient autour de lui des danses symboliques.
